The Trek Fuel LX 9.9 X0 AXS Gen 7 is the best-armed enduro Fuel for long descents: 4-piston SRAM Maven Silver brakes, a 170 mm RockShox ZEB Ultimate fork, a Vivid Ultimate shock for 160 mm and an OCLV Mountain carbon frame. Trek does not publish a weight for it (weight not published by Trek for this version); for reference, the Fuel LX 9.8 XT Di2, which shares the carbon frame, weighs 15.97 kg in a size M. The Purple Phaze/Amethyst Marble finish blends a dark purple with amethyst swirls.

For the racer or fast rider who links long descents, where braking becomes the limiting factor well before fitness. It suits those who want a complete enduro race bike straight from handover.
OCLV carbon, Trek's signature. The Fuel LX 9.9 shares the OCLV Mountain frame of the 9.8: the same carbon designed to withstand the repeated impacts of descending, the same Trek lifetime warranty. The difference therefore lies in the spec. A useful reminder: on the Gen 7 Fuel platform, Trek measures 3.31 kg for the carbon frameset and 4.95 kg for the aluminium one (Fuel EX, size M).
| OCLV Mountain (Fuel LX 9.9) | OCLV Mountain (Fuel LX 9.8) | Alpha NEXT Platinum (Fuel LX 9) | |
| Level | Top-end mountain bike carbon | The same carbon | Higher-grade MTB aluminium |
| Spec | RockShox Ultimate, X0 AXS, wireless dropper | Fox Factory, Shimano XT or XT Di2 | Fox Factory or RockShox depending on version |
| Published weight (M) | not disclosed | 15.97 kg (XT Di2) | 17.38 to 17.79 kg |
| What it means | The most adjustable, zero control cables | Same frame, simpler | Heavier, tough frame |
Put simply: the 9.9 does not give you a lighter frame than the 9.8, it gives you RockShox Ultimate suspension with more adjustments, a drivetrain and dropper post with no control cables at all, and Line Pro 30 wheels. Trek does not publish its weight: the closest reference remains the Fuel LX 9.8 XT Di2.
Maven Silver is SRAM's most powerful mountain bike brake range; with 4 pistons and a 200 mm HS2 rotor, they keep power consistent even when the descent drags on. Less lever effort means less hand fatigue and more precise braking at the end of a stage.
The X0 Eagle AXS T-Type drivetrain mounts directly on the frame's UDH hanger, with no conventional derailleur hanger: it copes better with rock strikes. The 30-tooth steel chainring and 10-52 cassette provide a very low gear for steep transfers.
| Model | Frame | Travel rear / front | Drivetrain | Weight (M) |
| Fuel EX 9.9 X0 AXS | OCLV Mountain carbon | 145 / 150 mm | SRAM X0 Eagle AXS T-Type 1x12 | 14.08 kg |
| Fuel LX 9.8 XT Di2 | OCLV Mountain carbon | 160 / 170 mm | Shimano XT Di2 1x12 | 15.97 kg |
| Fuel LX 9.9 X0 AXS | OCLV Mountain carbon | 160 / 170 mm | SRAM X0 Eagle AXS T-Type 1x12 | not published |
| Slash 9.9 X0 AXS T-Type | OCLV Mountain carbon | 170 / 170 mm | SRAM X0 Eagle AXS T-Type 1x12 | 16.53 kg |
Our take: for long descents, the 9.9 brings Maven Silver brakes and RockShox Ultimate suspension compared with the 9.8 XT Di2 (15.97 kg in M). The Slash 9.9 X0 AXS T-Type, at 16.53 kg, keeps 170 mm at the rear for the steepest slopes.

LVR sizing advice Between two sizes: the smaller one if you want a lively bike on tight trails, the larger one if you favour composure at high speed. The Fox Transfer NEO dropper goes from 150 to 200 mm of travel depending on size.

| Are the Mavens too powerful? | No, they modulate well; we adjust the lever position to your hands. |
| What does the T-Type mounting change? | The derailleur mounts on the UDH hanger, which is tougher against impacts. |
| Which brake fluid? | The Mavens use SRAM mineral fluid; we handle the bleed in our workshop. |
| Does the purple fade in the sun? | Trek paint is durable; a rinse and gentle care are enough. |

The LVR Cycles verdict The Fuel LX to choose for long, aggressive descents, with Maven braking that never fades and a robust drivetrain. Its dark purple with amethyst swirls gives it a look all of its own.
