The third-generation Trek Marlin 7 is the top of the Marlin family: a 100 mm RockShox Judy Silver air fork with rebound adjustment, a SRAM NX Eagle 1x12 11-50 drivetrain, Maxxis Rekon Tubeless Ready tyres and a dropper post, on an Alpha Silver aluminium frame. It weighs 14.15 kg in size M, the lightest of the current Marlins. Matte Dark Web/Clear Gloss pairs a deep matt black with glossy clear-coated logos.

For the committed mountain biker who rides every week and wants a high-performing hardtail without breaking the bank, for the rider preparing for their first races or sportive-style organised rides, or for a demanding cyclist who wants a bike that can keep up with their progress over several seasons.
Alpha aluminium, Trek's expertise. The Marlin 7 shares the Alpha Silver aluminium of its little brothers: same frame, same geometry, same utility mounts. The weight difference therefore comes not from the frame but from the components: air fork, folding-bead tyres, lighter hubs. It is a good example of a solid frame on which the spec makes all the difference.
| Marlin 7 | Marlin 6 | Roscoe 8 | |
| Frame | Alpha Silver, 29 in wheels (27.5 in XS/S) | Alpha Silver, same geometry | Alpha Gold, Boost, 2.60 in tyres |
| Suspension | 100 mm air fork, adjustable rebound | 100 mm coil fork | 140 mm air fork |
| Weight (M) | 14.15 kg | 15.00 kg | 13.54 kg |
| What it means | The most accomplished Marlin on the trail | Simpler, heavier | More aggressive, built for descending |
In short: 850 g lighter than the Marlin 6, a fork you set to your weight and an 11-50 cassette that climbs almost anything. The Marlin 7 is the entry-level hardtail we recommend when you already know you will be riding trails often.
The air fork is the real step up on the Marlin 7: unlike a coil spring, it can be set precisely to your weight using air pressure, and adjustable rebound controls how fast it returns. We set the sag in the workshop when we hand the bike over. Handling becomes far more precise on the rough trails around Béziers.
The 12-speed SRAM NX Eagle drivetrain offers a range of 11 to 50 teeth: enough to climb the steepest slopes and get back up to speed on the flat. The folding-bead Maxxis Rekon tyres, set up tubeless, bring grip and efficiency. This matt black set off by glossy logos gives an understated, technical look.
| Model | Fork | Drivetrain | Wheels / tyres | Weight (M) |
| Marlin 4 | Suntour XCE 28, 100 mm | Shimano ESSA 1x8 | 29 x 2.40 in (inner tube) | 14.90 kg |
| Marlin 5 | Suntour XCT 30, 100 mm, lockout | Shimano CUES 1x9 | 29 x 2.40 in (inner tube) | 15.10 kg |
| Marlin 6 | RockShox Judy, 100 mm | Shimano CUES 1x10 + dropper post | Tubeless Ready rims | 15.00 kg |
| Marlin 7 | RockShox Judy Silver air, 100 mm | SRAM NX Eagle 1x12 + dropper post | Maxxis Rekon Tubeless Ready | 14.15 kg |
Our take: the Marlin 7 is 850 g lighter than the Marlin 6 in size M, with an adjustable air fork and two extra gears. Beyond that, you need to move to the Roscoe 8 for descending or a Procaliber for performance.

LVR sizing advice The Marlin 7 comes in sizes XS to XXL; dropper post travel and crank length grow with the frame. If you are between two sizes, the larger one gives more stability at speed.

| Why an air fork? | It can be set to your weight and is more precise and lighter than a coil spring. |
| Can I race it? | For sportive-style organised rides and first regional races, yes. |
| Are the tyres tubeless? | Yes, the Maxxis Rekon tyres and Kovee rims are Tubeless Ready; we do the set-up. |
| Are the glossy logos fragile? | No, they are clear-coated like the rest of the frame. |
|
The LVR Cycles verdict The most complete and lightest Marlin, with an adjustable air fork that transforms the handling. Its matt black set off by glossy details gives it an understated, racy look.
