For the rider who loves long rides of several hours and wants a light, efficient bike, for anyone preparing for sporty organised rides or regional MTB raids, or for a mountain biker who wants a high-performing hardtail before a possible move to full suspension.
Alpha aluminium, Trek's expertise. The Marlin 7 shares the Alpha Silver aluminium of its little brothers: same frame, same geometry, same utility mounts. The weight difference therefore comes not from the frame but from the components: air fork, folding-bead tyres, lighter hubs. It is a good example of a solid frame on which the spec makes all the difference.
| Marlin 7 | Marlin 6 | Roscoe 8 | |
| Frame | Alpha Silver, 29 in wheels (27.5 in XS/S) | Alpha Silver, same geometry | Alpha Gold, Boost, 2.60 in tyres |
| Suspension | 100 mm air fork, adjustable rebound | 100 mm coil fork | 140 mm air fork |
| Weight (M) | 14.15 kg | 15.00 kg | 13.54 kg |
| What it means | The most accomplished Marlin on the trail | Simpler, heavier | More aggressive, built for descending |
In short: 850 g lighter than the Marlin 6, a fork you set to your weight and an 11-50 cassette that climbs almost anything. The Marlin 7 is the entry-level hardtail we recommend when you already know you will be riding trails often.
On a long ride, every gram and every watt counts. The folding-bead Maxxis Rekon tyres roll well and are lighter than wire-bead tyres; set up tubeless, they reduce rolling resistance. The Formula LW hubs also contribute to the weight saving over less well-equipped Marlins.
The NX Eagle 1x12 drivetrain offers a 30x50 gear for long raid climbs and a 30x11 for fast links. The hydraulic fork lockout avoids wasting energy on smooth tracks. This sparkling mint green adds a welcome touch of freshness on dry summer tracks.
| Model | Fork | Drivetrain | Wheels / tyres | Weight (M) |
| Marlin 4 | Suntour XCE 28, 100 mm | Shimano ESSA 1x8 | 29 x 2.40 in (inner tube) | 14.90 kg |
| Marlin 5 | Suntour XCT 30, 100 mm, lockout | Shimano CUES 1x9 | 29 x 2.40 in (inner tube) | 15.10 kg |
| Marlin 6 | RockShox Judy, 100 mm | Shimano CUES 1x10 + dropper post | Tubeless Ready rims | 15.00 kg |
| Marlin 7 | RockShox Judy Silver air, 100 mm | SRAM NX Eagle 1x12 + dropper post | Maxxis Rekon Tubeless Ready | 14.15 kg |
Our take: for long rides and raids, the Marlin 7 is the best-suited Marlin thanks to its weight and 12-speed drivetrain. To go even faster, a Procaliber in carbon or Alpha Platinum aluminium will be lighter.

LVR sizing advice The Marlin 7 comes in sizes XS to XXL; dropper post travel and crank length grow with the frame. If you are between two sizes, the larger one gives more stability at speed.
