The LVR workshop view

An Alpha Silver frame equipped like an adult bike. Trek has given this Precaliber 24 an Alpha Silver aluminium frame with rack and kickstand mounts, a replaceable derailleur hanger and a 135 x 5 mm rear quick release. These are the standards of a grown-up bike: in the workshop, the hanger is easy to replace after a fall, and the bike can be equipped for everyday journeys.

Precaliber 24 suspension	Wahoo 24 Path	Wahoo 24 Trail
Stage	Versatile, all tracks	Roads, greenways	Mountain bike trails
Frame / fork	Alpha Silver alloy / 45 mm fork	Alpha Silver alloy / rigid fork	Alpha Silver alloy / rigid fork
Reference bike	11.90 kg, 130 to 150 cm	9.80 kg, 130 to 150 cm	10.50 kg, 130 to 150 cm
What it means	Comfort on rough ground	Lighter, 8-speed microSHIFT	9-speed, hydraulic discs

In other words: 11.90 kg, an 8-speed 13-34 Shimano Tourney drivetrain, a 45 mm suspension fork and a padded 24-inch saddle. A versatile bike for 8 to 12 year olds that climbs well and soaks up the bumps.

The 34-tooth sprocket combined with the 32-tooth chainring gives a gear where one turn of the cranks is almost one turn of the rear wheel: your child can spin up steep slopes without standing on the pedals. That is what lets them keep up with the family on backcountry roads.

The 152 mm cranks match the leg length of a child from 130 to 150 cm, for efficient pedalling. The replaceable derailleur hanger protects the frame: after a fall onto the derailleur, the workshop replaces it and realigns everything in a few minutes.

Which Precaliber should you choose?

Model	Wheels	Child's height	Gears / brakes	Weight
Precaliber 20 7-speed	20 in	114 to 132 cm	7 speeds, 2 V-brakes, 35 mm fork	10.90 kg
Precaliber 24 suspension	24 in	130 to 150 cm	8 speeds, 2 V-brakes, 45 mm fork	11.90 kg
Wahoo 24 Path	24 in	130 to 150 cm	8-speed microSHIFT, 2 V-brakes	9.80 kg
Wahoo 24 Trail	24 in	130 to 150 cm	9-speed microSHIFT, hydraulic discs	10.50 kg

Our take: all four colours of this Precaliber 24 suspension weigh 11.90 kg. Compared with the Wahoo 24 Trail (10.50 kg, 9 speeds, hydraulic discs), it keeps the advantage of a suspension fork for rough tracks.
