The top of the family, the Trek Checkpoint SL 7 AXS Gen 3 brings together an OCLV 500 Series carbon frame with IsoSpeed, the SRAM Force XPLR AXS 1x13 drivetrain and Bontrager Aeolus Elite 35V carbon wheels, weighing 9.33 kg in size ML. It is the lightest and most responsive Checkpoint. The Dark Red/Carbon Red Smoke Splatter finish scatters smoky red flecks over a dark red, letting the carbon show through in places.

For the cyclist who enters big gravel events lasting several hours and wants to go fast over long distances while keeping the comfort and mounts of an adventure bike. It also suits the experienced rider who wants a single bike for both tracks and road.
OCLV carbon, Trek's signature. At Trek, every OCLV frame starts life as carbon sheets compacted under heat and high pressure, a process developed back in 1992 to eliminate internal voids. The series grading reflects the refinement of the lay-up: a higher number makes it possible to remove weight without losing stiffness. The Checkpoint SL 7 AXS keeps the 500 Series, which favours toughness against stones and luggage, for a painted frame of 1,385 g in ML covered by Trek's lifetime warranty.
| OCLV 500 (Checkpoint SL) | OCLV 800 (Checkmate SLR) | Alpha 300 (Checkpoint ALR) | |
| Level | Trek's rugged carbon version | Trek's sharpest gravel bike | The brand's premium aluminium |
| Construction | OCLV, sturdy lay-up | OCLV, refined lay-up, aero profiles | Welded hydroformed tubes |
| Frame (painted) | 1,385 g ML / fork 536 g | 1,146 g ML / fork 415 g | 1,878 g in M |
| What it means | The best equipped for touring | 239 g less on the frame, fewer mounts | Robust but considerably heavier |
In short: at the top of the Checkpoint range, the SL 7 AXS does not change carbon, it invests in what you feel on the ground: carbon wheels, the Force groupset and a lighter saddle. To get down towards 8.5 kg, you need to move to the Checkmate SLR 7 AXS, a race gravel bike far less geared towards luggage.
The Aeolus Elite 35V wheels bring what the aluminium versions lack: a stiffer, lighter carbon rim that accelerates better out of corners and holds speed on the long straights of the wine-growing plain. Their 35 mm profile is barely affected by crosswinds, a real advantage when the tramontane blows across the white tracks of the Minervois.
At an event lasting six or seven hours, comfort becomes a performance factor: IsoSpeed and the carbon seatpost limit fatigue, and the Verse Short Elite saddle with magnesium rails supports the pelvis well in a forward position. The storage hatch saves you carrying a saddle bag that swings around on rough sections.
| Model | Frame | Drivetrain | Wheels | Weight (ML) |
| Checkpoint SL 5 AXS | OCLV 500 | Wireless SRAM Apex XPLR AXS 1x12 | Aluminium Paradigm SL | 9.50 kg |
| Checkpoint SL 6 AXS | OCLV 500 | Wireless SRAM Rival XPLR AXS 1x13 | Aluminium Paradigm Comp 25 | 9.49 kg |
| Checkpoint SL 7 AXS | OCLV 500 | Wireless SRAM Force XPLR AXS 1x13 | Carbon Aeolus Elite 35V | 9.33 kg |
| Checkmate SLR 7 AXS | OCLV 800 | Wireless SRAM Force XPLR AXS 1x13 | Carbon Aeolus Pro 3V | 8.47 kg |
Our take: the SL 7 AXS saves 160 g over the SL 6 AXS and adds carbon wheels and the Force groupset. For racing, the Checkmate SLR 7 AXS drops to 8.47 kg in OCLV 800, at the cost of fewer mounts.

LVR sizing advice If you are between two sizes, the smaller one gives you a playful bike on singletrack, the larger one a more stretched-out position for long stages. In XS and S, the cranks are 160 mm, then 165 and 170 mm above that.
