Trek Speed Concept SLR 7 AXS: train and race by the watts

The Trek Speed Concept SLR 7 AXS pairs an OCLV Series 800 carbon frame with the wireless SRAM Force AXS 2x12 groupset, whose chainset has a built-in power meter, and Aeolus Pro 51 carbon wheels, for 9.02 kg in size M. A Bento box and down tube storage are integrated into the frame. Its Party Purple colourway combines a vibrant purple with black details.

Who is it for?

For the triathlete who structures their training around a power-based plan and wants the same data on race day. It suits age-group competitors aiming for measurable progress over 70.3 or Olympic distance.

The LVR workshop view

OCLV carbon, Trek's signature. OCLV is Trek's in-house process, in place since 1992: heat and pressure drive out the air trapped between the fibre sheets, and the higher the series number, the less material is needed for a given stiffness. The Speed Concept SLR 7 AXS uses Series 800, which was long the top of the brand's road range. Here it makes room for a Bento box and a down tube compartment without weakening the frame, which carries a Trek lifetime warranty.

What it meansStiff and durable, integrated storage and IsoSpeedUp to 20% stronger than OCLV 800Heavier, more affordable budget

In short: a triathlon frame is not chosen by the gram. The 1,522 g of the Speed Concept are explained by deep sections and integration, assets that save far more time than a hundred grams or so on a fast course.

The power meter fitted as standard changes the way you race: rather than going by feel or by speed, which the wind distorts, you hold a target power. On the bike leg of a triathlon, that is often what stops you going out too hard and paying for it on the run.

The 48/35 chainset and 10-33 cassette offer a top gear comparable to 52x11 and an easier bottom gear: useful on courses that climb towards the Hauts Cantons. The AXS batteries charge on the derailleurs; we update the firmware and pair the power meter with your bike computer.

Which Speed Concept should you choose?

Speed Concept SLR 7 AXSOCLV 800SRAM Force AXS + power meterAeolus Pro 519.02 kg (M)

Speed Concept SLR 9 AXSOCLV 800SRAM RED AXS + power meterAeolus RSL 51n/a (frame 1,522 g)

Our take: compared with the SLR 7, this model adds a power meter, 51 mm rims and a Bento box for just 50 g more. The SLR 9 AXS steps up to RED AXS and RSL wheels, with the same power meter principle.

LVR sizing advice

Between two sizes, do not decide from the chart alone: the aero position depends on your flexibility and the height of the extensions. We set up the mid-rise bar and seatpost offset during the bike fit.

The LVR Cycles verdict

The Speed Concept that turns every ride into a measured session. For a triathlete who trains seriously, the built-in power meter alone justifies choosing this version.

Pros
+ Power meter as standard
+ Fast 51 mm rims
+ Integrated Bento box and storage
Cons
- Rims more sensitive to crosswinds
- 9.02 kg in M, not the lightest
