With its Shimano Ultegra Di2 2x12, Bontrager Aeolus Pro 51 carbon wheels and carbon aero handlebar, the Trek Madone SL 7 Gen 8 weighs 7.87 kg in size ML on an OCLV Series 500 carbon frame. Nothing needs replacing as soon as you buy it, which avoids hidden costs. The Matte Cobalt Blue/Trek Black/Living Coral colourway combines a matte cobalt blue and black, with coral details that liven it up.

For the rider who doesn't want to buy a bike and then immediately change the wheels and handlebar, for the enthusiast who rides all year round and wants durable components, or for someone returning to racing after a few years and looking for a safe bet.
OCLV carbon, Trek's signature. OCLV stands for Optimum Compaction, Low Void: since 1992, pressure and temperature have driven out the air trapped between the fibre layers. The Madone SL 7 uses the 500 series, shared by all Madone SL models, and it is its components, more than its frame, that set it apart from its little brothers. Like all OCLV frames, it is covered by Trek's lifetime warranty.
| OCLV 500 (Madone SL) | OCLV 900 (Madone SLR) | OCLV 800 (Speed Concept SLR) | |
| Level | Entry-level carbon of the road range | Trek's most refined carbon | Trek's former top-end road carbon |
| Construction | OCLV process, slightly thicker layup | 3D moulding, fewer overlaps, up to 20 % stronger than OCLV 800 | Layup designed for aero and integration |
| Reference bike | Madone SL 7: 7.87 kg (ML) | Madone SLR 7 AXS: 7.22 kg (ML) | Speed Concept SLR 7: 8.97 kg (M) |
| What it means | Painted frame 1,054 g + fork 363 g (ML), sensible budget | Painted frame 796 g + fork 350 g (ML), one-piece bar and stem | Painted frame 1,522 g + fork 410 g, triathlon bike |
Put simply: the SL 7 combines the SL frame with SLR-level components, Ultegra Di2, Aeolus Pro 51 wheels and a carbon handlebar. Moving up to the SLR 7 with the same groupset saves 350 g, mainly on the frame and cockpit: noticeable on a col, much less so on the flat or sitting in a group.
On many bikes at this level, the wheels are the first part people replace: here, the carbon Aeolus Pro 51 are already of a standard that many riders buy as an upgrade. The carbon aero handlebar completes the package, and the separate stem lets you adjust the position without changing the whole cockpit.
The 28 mm Aeolus Pro tyres roll efficiently; clearance up to 32 mm leaves room for more comfort in winter or on the broken roads of the Montagne Noire. IsoFlow, with no adjustment or parts to maintain, offers up to 80 % more vertical compliance than the old Madone, according to Trek.
| Model | Carbon | Drivetrain | Wheels | Weight (size) |
| Madone SL 6 AXS | OCLV 500 | SRAM Rival AXS wireless | Aeolus Elite 48 carbon | 8.11 kg (ML) |
| Madone SL 7 | OCLV 500 | Shimano Ultegra Di2 | Aeolus Pro 51 carbon | 7.87 kg (ML) |
| Madone SLR 7 | OCLV 900 | Shimano Ultegra Di2 | Aeolus Pro 51 carbon | 7.52 kg (ML) |
| Madone SLR 9 | OCLV 900 | Shimano Dura-Ace Di2 | Aeolus RSL 51 carbon | 7.05 kg (ML) |
Our take: the SL 7 costs less than an SLR 7 with the same groupset; the 350 g difference mostly pays off on climbs. Compared with the SL 6 AXS, it adds a carbon handlebar, Aeolus Pro wheels and 240 g less.

LVR sizing advice Race geometry, fairly low upper body: between two sizes, choose the smaller one if you lack flexibility, the larger one if you have a long torso. Handlebar, stem and cranks change with the size.
