For the rider getting back on the road after a break, or who wants to keep riding with a faster group without finishing every loop in the red. As this colour is offered in size 56, it suits riders from 174 to 180 cm.
Alpha aluminium, Trek's solid foundation. The Domane+ AL 5 is built around an Alpha Series 100 aluminium frame, the same grade as the entry-level Domane AL. Its down tube conceals a 250 Wh battery and the rear wheel carries the motor: the bottom bracket keeps the look of a conventional bike, backed by a torque sensor that measures your effort. The carbon fork takes care of filtering out some of the road buzz.
| Domane+ AL 5 (Alpha Series 100) | Domane+ ALR 5 (Alpha Series 300) | Domane+ SLR (OCLV Series 800) | |
| Level | Entry-level aluminium, motor in the wheel | Aluminium, mid-drive motor | Carbon, mid-drive motor |
| Construction | 250 Wh battery in the down tube | TQ HPR60 and 360 Wh battery | TQ HPR50 or HPR60, 360 Wh, IsoSpeed |
| Reference bike | AL 5: 14.06 kg (56) | ALR 5: 14.39 kg (ML) | SLR 6: 12.85 kg (56) |
| What it changes | Simple, conventional chainset | More torque, 1x12 drivetrain | 1.21 kg lighter, carbon frame |
In short: the AL 5 is the simplest take on the Domane+ in Trek's range. Its 40 Nm wheel motor and 250 Wh battery are aimed at training and brisk leisure rides, yet it keeps a proper Shimano 105 groupset and hydraulic disc brakes.
With the motor in the rear wheel, the bottom bracket is left free: you keep a conventional FSA 50/34 chainset, and a torque sensor meters the assist according to how hard you press on the pedals. The harder you push, the more it helps, which avoids the feeling of being shoved along that you get with systems reacting only to crank rotation.
At 250 Wh, the battery is smaller than the 360 Wh of the TQ-powered Domane+ models: it suits rides of a few hours, as long as you manage the assist on the climbs. The 32 mm tyres and carbon fork smooth out the back roads of the Béziers hinterland, and the mudguard and rack mounts open the door to everyday journeys. Assistance cuts out at 25 km/h, as on any e-bike.
| Model | Frame | Motor | Drivetrain | Weight (size) |
| Domane+ AL 5 | Alpha Series 100 alloy | 40 Nm hub motor, 250 Wh | Shimano 105 2x11 | 14.06 kg (56) |
| Domane+ ALR 5 | Alpha Series 300 alloy | TQ HPR60, 360 Wh | SRAM Apex XPLR 1x12 | 14.39 kg (ML) |
| Domane+ SLR 6 | OCLV Series 800 carbon | TQ HPR50, 360 Wh | Shimano 105 Di2 2x12 | 12.85 kg (56) |
| Domane+ SLR 7 HPR60 | OCLV Series 800 carbon | TQ HPR60, 360 Wh | Shimano Ultegra Di2 2x12 | 12.65 kg (56) |
Our take: at 14.06 kg in size 56, the AL 5 weighs close to the ALR 5 (14.39 kg in ML), but the latter brings 60 Nm at the bottom bracket and 360 Wh. The Domane+ SLR 6 drops to 12.85 kg with a carbon frame and Shimano 105 Di2.
