The LVR workshop view

OCLV carbon, Trek's signature. Flagship of the Domane+ SLR range, this SLR 9 is built from OCLV Series 800 carbon. The OCLV process compacts the carbon layers under pressure and heat to eliminate air pockets; the higher the series number, the stiffer the frame for a given weight. Here it houses a 50 Nm motor and comes with a Dura-Ace build, backed by Trek's lifetime warranty.

In short: this SLR 9 combines Dura-Ace Di2, Aeolus RSL 37 carbon wheels and the 50 Nm TQ HPR50 motor, for 11.75 kg in 56 (weighed with sealant, without inner tubes). Compared with the SLR 9 HPR60, it stands apart through this motor and its R3 Hard-Case Lite tyres.

Dura-Ace Di2 R9250 is Shimano's top road groupset: fast shifts, consistent precision and very progressive BR-9270 brakes on CL900 rotors. With 175 mm Praxis carbon cranks suited to the 60, the drivetrain stays smooth even when you really put the power down.

The HPR50 motor delivers 50 Nm and 300 W peak, a measured helping hand in keeping with the light-footed character of this SLR 9. The Aeolus RSL 37 wheels pick up speed eagerly, and the 32 mm R3 Hard-Case Lite tyres guard against punctures on the stony roads of the Espinouse. Above 25 km/h, the assist fades away.

Which Domane+ should you choose?

Our take: this SLR 9 HPR50 (11.75 kg in 56) is 840 g lighter than the SLR 7 HPR50 (12.59 kg), thanks to the Dura-Ace and RSL wheels. The SLR 9 HPR60 (11.84 kg) adds 10 Nm for an extra 90 g; the Domane+ SL 9 AXS (11.00 kg in ML) is lighter, with 40 Nm.
