The Trek Domane+ SL 7 AXS Gen 5 combines an OCLV Series 500 carbon frame, the TQ HPR40 motor and a 360 Wh TQ battery, a wireless SRAM Force XPLR AXS 1x13 drivetrain and Bontrager Aeolus Pro 37 carbon wheels. Who is it for?

For the sportive rider used to a conventional road bike who wants to ride further or rediscover the joy of the cols without changing the feel. It suits those who ride for several hours and want to finish with something left in the tank.

The LVR workshop view

OCLV carbon, Trek's signature. For the Domane+ SL 7 AXS, Trek uses its OCLV Series 500 carbon, the fruit of expertise dating back to 1992: each layer is hot-pressed to expel trapped air and ensure uniform strength. The frame houses the TQ motor, its battery and the cables, while keeping mounting points for mudguards and a frame bag. It benefits from Trek's lifetime warranty.

In short: the SL 7 AXS shares the frame, fork and TQ HPR40 motor of the SL 6 AXS, but gets Aeolus Pro 37 carbon wheels, a carbon Pro Riser handlebar and the SRAM Force XPLR AXS groupset. Weight drops to 11.47 kg in ML.

The Force XPLR AXS groupset puts a single chainring in front of a 13-speed XG-1371 cassette from 10 to 46 teeth. There are more intermediate gears than with a wide-range 12-speed cassette, and the wireless derailleur can be set up in a few minutes in the workshop. For someone used to a double chainset, it is quick to get to grips with.

The HPR40 motor is all about discretion: 40 Nm, 200 W peak, and help that fades away above 25 km/h, the speed from which the Domane+ behaves like a road bike. On the climbs of the Caroux, you choose your assist level on the TQ colour LED display, connected via Bluetooth.

Our take: at 11.47 kg in ML, the SL 7 AXS sits between the SL 6 AXS (12.11 kg), with alloy wheels, and the SRAM RED-equipped SL 9 AXS (11.00 kg). The 470 g difference from the SL 9 comes at the price of RSL wheels and a RED groupset; the SL 7 already offers the essentials.

LVR sizing advice

The Domane+ SL comes in XS to XL. Trek puts the ML between 173 and 179 cm and the L between 179 and 188 cm; handlebar width (36 to 42 cm) and stem length (80 to 120 mm) change with the size. If you are between two sizes, a measurement in store will settle it.
