For the Domane+ SL 7 AXS, Trek uses its OCLV Series 500 carbon, the fruit of expertise dating back to 1992: each layer is hot-pressed to expel trapped air and ensure uniform strength. The frame houses the TQ motor, its battery and the cables, while keeping mounting points for mudguards and a frame bag. It benefits from Trek's lifetime warranty.

In short: the SL 7 AXS shares the frame, fork and TQ HPR40 motor of the SL 6 AXS, but gets Aeolus Pro 37 carbon wheels, a carbon Pro Riser handlebar and the SRAM Force XPLR AXS groupset. Weight drops to 11.47 kg in ML.

On a long day, the trick is to keep the assist in reserve: a gentle mode on the flat or into the wind, more help on the ramps of the Espinouse or the Montagne Noire. That way the 360 Wh TQ battery lasts the distance, and the motor no longer kicks in above 25 km/h, which also saves energy on the descents.

The integrated mounts take a frame bag with no rubbing straps, and mudguards fit neatly for winter rides. With the Bontrager RSL carbon seatpost and the Verse Short Pro saddle with carbon rails, the contact points stay comfortable hour after hour.

Our take: compared with the SL 9 AXS (11.00 kg in ML), the SL 7 AXS gives away only 470 g on the same platform; for long days, you are better off investing in a bike fit and good tyres than in those grams.

LVR sizing advice

The Domane+ SL comes in XS to XL. Trek puts the ML between 173 and 179 cm and the L between 179 and 188 cm; handlebar width (36 to 42 cm) and stem length (80 to 120 mm) change with the size. If you are between two sizes, a measurement in store will settle it.
