Belt drive on a classic frame. For riders who prefer to swing a leg over a top tube, Trek offers the Charter+ 4 Nexus 5 with a standard Alpha Platinum frame, from M to XL. The Gates CDX belt, Nexus 5-speed hub and 540 Wh battery are carried over unchanged, as are the mudguards, the integrated rack and the Pletscher kickstand.

In short: an easy-going Charter+ for riders of 165 cm and up, weighed by Trek at 31.60 kg in size L. The belt keeps grease marks off your trousers, a real plus for commuting in everyday clothes.

In winter, salt, mud and rain quickly attack a chain and derailleur. The belt and sealed hub stand up to these conditions far better, and the aluminium mudguards limit spray onto the drivetrain as well as your clothes. A rinse after wet days is all it needs.

In winter, charge and store the battery indoors, at a moderate temperature: it will keep its performance for longer. The Bosch motor, whose assistance stops at 25 km/h, is available whatever the season, and the Boulevard saddle on a suspension seatpost keeps you comfortable.

Our take: identical to the blue colour, this black is purely a matter of taste. The standard-frame Nexus 5 800 Wh (32.50 kg in L) adds 260 Wh for anyone who rides much more each week.

LVR sizing advice

This standard frame comes from M to XL. Between 170 and 173 cm, M and L overlap: the M gives a more compact, nimble position, the L more reach for riding long distances. We check your inside leg before confirming, then adjust the stem.
