The LVR workshop view

The belt-drive Lowstep that goes the distance. Here Trek pairs the Alpha Platinum step-through frame, the Gates CDX belt and the Shimano Nexus C7000 5-speed hub with an 800 Wh PowerTube. You get the low step-over, the grease-free drivetrain and a large energy reserve, with mudguards, an integrated rack and a Pletscher Comp Flex 40 kickstand.

In short: 260 Wh more than the Nexus 540 Wh Lowstep for an extra 0.90 kg according to Trek (31.50 kg versus 30.60 kg in M). The right choice when journeys get longer or you ride every day without wanting to charge every evening.

The step-through frame lets you get on and off dozens of times a day effortlessly, even in a skirt or a long coat. The Pletscher Comp Flex 40 kickstand holds the loaded bike while you lock it or put your things in the pannier.

The Nexus hub changes gear at a standstill: when you pull away from the lights, you're already in the right gear. The 800 Wh battery spaces out charges, which makes organising a busy week simpler.

LVR sizing advice

You get onto the Lowstep frame from the front, without lifting your leg: the size is chosen mainly on saddle height and reach. Trek's ranges overlap between M and L (170 to 173 cm); in that case, the smaller size gives a more upright position and the larger one more room for long rides. The height-adjustable stem then fine-tunes the position.
