For the racer or sporty mountain biker committed to Shimano who wants electronic shifting and a high-end frame without going for XTR. It will also suit the rider preparing their first racing season on a full-suspension bike.
OCLV carbon, Trek's signature. Trek's carbon expertise relies on high-pressure, high-temperature compaction that rids the fibres of internal defects. The mountain bike version of this process, OCLV Mountain, is tuned to withstand the repeated impacts of the trail. The 9.8 XT Di2 uses its SLR level, the lightest Trek offers, on the same frame as the 9.9 models, with a lifetime warranty.
| OCLV Mountain SLR | OCLV Mountain SL | Alpha Platinum alloy (Procaliber 6 / 8) | |
| Level | Trek's most advanced mountain bike carbon | Standard MTB carbon, same geometry | Trek premium aluminium |
| Construction | OCLV process, layup refined to the maximum | OCLV process, slightly more material | Hydroforming, smoothed welds |
| Reference bike | Supercaliber SLR 9.8 and 9.9 | Supercaliber SL 9.6 and 9.7 | Procaliber 6 and 8 (hardtails) |
| What it means | Lighter frame, reserved for high-end builds | Same IsoStrut, slightly heavier frame | Heavier, no rear suspension |
Put simply: the 9.8 XT Di2 offers the SLR frame and SID SL Ultimate fork of the 9.9 models with Shimano electronic shifting one notch down. It is 600 g lighter than the SL 9.7 GX AXS and 1 kg heavier than the 9.9 XTR Di2, the difference coming mainly from the wheels, chainset and post.
XT Di2 follows the logic of XTR Di2: electronically controlled shifts, consistent and unaffected by dirt. For a mountain biker who rides in all weathers, it means no more cable adjustments after a muddy ride in the Montagne Noire.
The SID SL Ultimate fork, the one from the 9.9 models, is one of the real assets of this 9.8: light, sensitive over small bumps and equipped with precise Charger Race Day damping. With the dual remote lockout, you firm up the whole front and rear with one movement for a sprint or a fire-road climb.
| Model | Carbon | Drivetrain | Suspension | Weight (M) |
| Supercaliber SL 9.7 GX AXS | OCLV Mountain SL | Wireless SRAM GX AXS | SID / SIDLuxe | 12.18 kg |
| Supercaliber SLR 9.8 XT Di2 | OCLV Mountain SLR | Shimano XT Di2 | SID SL Ultimate / SIDLuxe | 11.58 kg |
| Supercaliber SLR 9.8 X0 AXS | OCLV Mountain SLR | Wireless SRAM X0 AXS | SID Select+ / SIDLuxe | 11.38 kg |
| Supercaliber SLR 9.9 XTR Di2 | OCLV Mountain SLR | Shimano XTR Di2 | SID SL Ultimate / SIDLuxe | 10.58 kg |
Our take: the 9.8 XT Di2 offers the SLR frame and fork of the 9.9 models at 11.58 kg in M, 600 g less than the SL 9.7 GX AXS. The 9.8 X0 AXS, with wireless SRAM, is 200 g lighter.

LVR sizing advice If you are between two sizes, the smaller one favours agility, the larger one comfort on long events. The Line Elite post offers 100 mm in S, 150 mm in M and ML, 170 mm in L and XL: a real bonus for descending.
