Trek Fuel LX 9 XT Di2 Lithium Grey: Shimano goes wireless

The Trek Fuel LX 9 XT Di2 Gen 7 combines an Alpha NEXT Platinum aluminium frame, a 170 mm Fox Factory 38 fork, a 160 mm DHX2 coil shock and the wireless electronic Shimano XT Di2 drivetrain. Trek does not publish the weight of this version; for reference, the Fuel LX 9 XT, on the same alloy frame, weighs 17.79 kg in a size M. The Lithium Grey / Trek Black Splatter colourway shows a lithium grey speckled with black.

Who is it for?

It is intended for the Shimano loyalist who wants to enjoy electronics, with configurable shifting and no cable to adjust. It suits the mountain biker who likes to personalise their bike and tailor how the drivetrain behaves.

The LVR workshop view

Alpha NEXT Platinum, the choice of toughness. The Fuel LX 9 XT Di2 shares its aluminium frame with the other Fuel LX 9 models: Trek's highest grade of mountain bike alloy, with progression adjustment and interchangeable kinematic parts. Pairing this frame with an electronic Di2 drivetrain is a bet on reliability: a frame that does not fear impacts, and a derailleur that stays in adjustment ride after ride.

Put simply: you get Shimano electronics without moving to carbon. Trek does not give the weight of this version; the mechanical Fuel LX 9 XT, on the same frame, weighs 17.79 kg in M.

The XT Di2 drivetrain is configurable: shift speed, shifter button functions, multi-shift. This is set up via the Shimano app, and we help you configure it to suit your habits. Shifts stay crisp even under load, a real plus when accelerating.

The rest of the build follows the Fuel LX 9 XT base: four-piston Shimano XT M8220 brakes with a 203 mm front rotor, 2.5-inch Maxxis tyres and a dropper post matched to the size. A welcome consistency for a rider attached to the Shimano world.

Our take: compared with the mechanical LX 9 XT (17.79 kg in M), this Di2 adds wireless shifting on the same frame. For a lighter bike, the carbon LX 9.8 XT Di2 weighs 15.97 kg; the Slash 9.8 XT Di2 moves to 170 mm at the rear.

LVR sizing advice

From S to XL, this Fuel LX covers riders from 155 to 195 cm. Also consider the dropper post travel: 150 mm in S, 170 mm in M, 200 mm in L and XL.
