The regional enduro racer looking for a precise drivetrain when accelerating out of corners on a stage, and suspension that can soak up fast sections, will find the right tool here. It also suits riders who ride fast and often on demanding routes.
Alpha NEXT Platinum, the choice of toughness. The Fuel LX 9 XT Di2 shares its aluminium frame with the other Fuel LX 9 models: Trek's highest grade of mountain bike alloy, with progression adjustment and interchangeable kinematic parts. Pairing this frame with an electronic Di2 drivetrain is a bet on reliability: a frame that does not fear impacts, and a derailleur that stays in adjustment ride after ride.
| Alpha NEXT Platinum (Fuel LX 9) | OCLV Mountain (Fuel LX 9.8) | Alpha Platinum (Slash 8) | |
| Level | Trek's best MTB aluminium, reserved for Gen 7 Fuels | Trek's mountain bike carbon | Aluminium from the range above |
| Construction | Alloy engineered for strength, highly adjustable frame | OCLV layup tuned for impact resistance | Tough alloy, simpler kinematics |
| Reference bike | Gen 7 alloy Fuel EX frameset: 4.95 kg (M) | Gen 7 carbon Fuel EX frameset: 3.31 kg (M) | Complete Slash 8: 16.68 kg (M) |
| What it means | Takes knocks, more affordable | About 1.6 kg less on the frameset | 170 mm alloy enduro, less adjustable |
Put simply: you get Shimano electronics without moving to carbon. Trek does not give the weight of this version; the mechanical Fuel LX 9 XT, on the same frame, weighs 17.79 kg in M.
On a stage, accelerations come one after another: out of a hairpin, over a small rise, onto a flat. The Di2 shifts several sprockets with one held press, with no thumb effort and no hesitation even under load. That stops you losing momentum at the wrong moment.
The DHX2 coil shock behaves consistently from one stage to the next. The Fox 38's GRIP X2 damper lets you firm up high-speed compression to avoid bottoming out on big impacts. We set these parameters with you before the race season.
| Model | Frame | Drivetrain | Travel rear / front | Weight (M) |
| Fuel LX 9 XT | Alpha NEXT Platinum alloy | Mechanical Shimano XT | 160 / 170 mm | 17.79 kg |

| Fuel LX 9.8 XT Di2 | OCLV Mountain carbon | Wireless Shimano XT Di2 | 160 / 170 mm | 15.97 kg |
| Slash 9.8 XT Di2 | OCLV Mountain carbon | Wireless Shimano XT Di2 | 170 / 170 mm | 16.63 kg |
Our take: to race with Shimano, the LX 9 XT Di2 is the wireless alloy option. The carbon LX 9.8 XT Di2 weighs 15.97 kg in M; the Slash 9.8 XT Di2 adds 10 mm at the rear.
