For the endurance mountain biker who clocks up 60 km or more on rolling routes, from the Haut-Languedoc to the shores of the Salagou, and wants a reliable bike that is easy to live with over time. It will also suit riders who want to move from a leisure mountain bike to a proper race hardtail.
Alpha Platinum: a refined aluminium. In Trek's hierarchy of alloys, Platinum sits above the Alpha Silver of the Marlins and below the Alpha NEXT Platinum reserved for the latest-generation Fuels. The Procaliber 8 shares this frame with the Procaliber 6: cables routed through the tubes, a creak-free 73 mm BSA threaded bottom bracket, hidden kickstand and rack mounts, and a UDH universal derailleur hanger. Trek also says it now makes almost all of its aluminium frames from low-carbon metal.
| Alpha Platinum (Procaliber 6 / 8) | Alpha Silver (Marlin) | OCLV Mountain (Procaliber 9.x) | |
| Level | Trek's high-end aluminium for hardtail mountain bikes | Entry-level MTB aluminium | Trek's mountain bike carbon |
| Construction | Internal cables, threaded BSA, UDH, Boost | Simple, robust design | OCLV process, impact-oriented layup, IsoBow |
| Reference bike (M) | Procaliber 8: 13.73 kg | Marlin 7: 14.15 kg | Procaliber 9.5: 12.13 kg |
| What it means | XC geometry, solid frame, controlled budget | Versatile for leisure rides and tracks, heavier | Lighter, more compliant rear end |
Put simply: on this Procaliber 8, Trek replaces the Shimano groupset with a SRAM Eagle 70 T-Type, with a 10-52 cassette and a derailleur that mounts on the UDH standard. The claimed weight rises to 13.73 kg in M; here you choose a modern, robust drivetrain rather than a featherweight bike.
Over long distances, the cockpit matters as much as the frame: from ML to XL, the 750 mm Rhythm Comp handlebar with 15 mm rise offers a slightly more upright position that relieves the shoulders, and the Blendr-compatible stem neatly holds a GPS computer. The Trek Line Comp lock-on grips are easy to swap for a more ergonomic model.
The Shimano MT410 hydraulic brakes run on mineral oil, which makes bleeding simple and inexpensive in the workshop. On a marathon, their modulation lets you stay in control on long descents without tensing your hands; at the end of the season, we check pad wear.
| Model | Frame | Drivetrain | Fork | Weight (M) |
| Procaliber 6 (Deore M6200) | Alpha Platinum alloy | Shimano Deore 1x12 | Judy Silver 120 mm | 14.08 kg |
| Procaliber 8 (Eagle 70) | Alpha Platinum alloy | SRAM Eagle 70 T-Type 1x12 | Recon Gold 120 mm | 13.73 kg |
| Procaliber 9.5 (Fox Rhythm) | OCLV Mountain, IsoBow | Shimano Deore 1x12 | Fox Rhythm 34, 120 mm | 12.73 kg |
| Procaliber 9.6 | OCLV Mountain, IsoBow | SRAM Eagle 70 T-Type 1x12 | Fox Factory 34, 130 mm | 12.38 kg |
Our take: for long distances, the carbon Procaliber 9.5 adds IsoBow, which filters vibrations better as the hours go by, for 1 kg less with the Fox fork (12.73 kg). This Procaliber 8 remains the only way to get a T-Type drivetrain on an alloy Procaliber frame.

LVR sizing advice If you are unsure, the smaller size favours agility on twisty trails, the larger one stability at high speed. The handlebar goes from 720 to 750 mm from ML upwards, the stem lengthens from 50 to 80 mm and the dropper post reaches 170 mm in XL.
