Trek Wahoo 20 Path Lavender Haze: longer family rides

With its 20-inch wheels and Alpha Silver aluminium frame, the Trek Wahoo 20 Path takes children from 1.14 to 1.32 m on to more ambitious outings. Trek quotes 8.75 kg, the weight of a much simpler bike, yet it offers 8 gears. The Lavender Haze shade is a soft, bright light mauve.

Who is it for?

For families who enjoy weekend rides on the greenways and along the Canal du Midi, and whose child is starting to find their small bike a bit cramped. It is also a good choice for cycling to school on cycle lanes.

The LVR workshop view

Alpha Silver aluminium, a grown-up frame in a 20-inch format. Trek keeps the Alpha name for its in-house alloys, and Silver is used on its entry-level bikes. On this Wahoo 20 Path, it makes for a stiff, light frame, so much so that the complete bike comes in at just 8.75 kg, the lowest figure in the whole Wahoo range.

In other words: for the same child height, this Path weighs 2.15 kg less than the 7-speed Precaliber 20. On a 20-inch bike, that difference is felt every time they pull away and every time the bike has to be lifted.

The 560 mm handlebar, narrower than on the other Wahoo bikes, is sized for the shoulders of a child of this height. Combined with a 50 mm stem and reduced-diameter grips, it gives a natural position, without stretching the arms or squashing the hands.

The V-brakes act on the alloy rims: they are light, simple to adjust and need little effort at the lever. We always check that your child's fingers can reach the levers without straining, as that is the key to safe braking at this age.

Our take: among Trek's 20-inch bikes, this Path is the only one under 9 kg. The Wahoo 20 Trail (9.85 kg) is aimed more at dirt tracks; the 7-speed Precaliber 20 (10.90 kg) puts comfort first with its suspension fork.

LVR sizing advice

Trek recommends this Wahoo 20 Path for a child measuring 1.14 to 1.32 m. Once seated, your child should be able to touch the ground with their toes and keep their arms slightly bent. The simplest way is still to come and try it with them in our Béziers shop.

Is the handlebar adjustable?	The height can be adjusted slightly at the stem; we set it when we hand over the bike.
