There's no coil spring in this pedal: the cleat is held by a LOOK-patented blade housed in a carbon body. The result is a 115 g pedal with a 705 mm² contact area and a foot positioned very close to the axle. This version comes with a tension-12 blade, the one LOOK recommends for riders who ride regularly, in the standard 53 mm Q-factor.
Both models share the same body, the same contact area and the same weight. The Ceramic swaps the steel bearings for ceramic bearings, which LOOK claims offer 18% less resistance and last 4 to 6 times longer. For training, sportives or club rides, the steel-bearing Keo Blade does the job perfectly; the Ceramic is for riders chasing that last bit of smoothness. Compared with the spring-based Keo 2 Max, the Blade adds 205 mm² of contact area and lowers the stack by 2.5 mm.
The 12 blade suits most riders. If you're new to clipless pedals, an 8 blade kit will make unclipping more progressive; conversely, a sprinter who feels the cleat shift under load should move up to a 16. Swapping takes less than 30 seconds with the extraction tool supplied in every kit. Walk in Keo Covers to protect your cleats: play or inconsistent unclipping are signs it's time to replace them.
