For the ambitious triathlete who wants no compromise, from 70.3 qualification to the long-distance championships. It is aimed at the athlete who already trains with power and wants the best of SRAM on a dedicated bike.
OCLV carbon, Trek's signature. Developed by Trek in the early 1990s, OCLV involves pressing and heating the carbon layers until every air bubble is driven out. The Speed Concept SLR 9 AXS, the best-equipped version in the range, nevertheless shares the same OCLV Series 800 frame as the SLR 7: moving up the range means a better drivetrain and wheels. Trek lifetime warranty.
| OCLV 800 (Speed Concept SLR) | OCLV 900 (Madone SLR) | OCLV 500 (Madone SL) | |
| Level | Trek's former top-end road carbon | Trek's most advanced carbon | Entry-level road carbon |
| Construction | Lay-up optimised for large-section aero tubes | 3D moulding, fewer fibre overlaps | Same process, slightly more material |
| Reference bike | Frame 1,522 g painted + fork 410 g | Madone SLR: frame 796 g (ML) + fork 350 g | Madone SL: frame 1,054 g (ML) + fork 363 g |
| What it means | Stiff and durable, integrated storage and IsoSpeed | Up to 20% stronger than OCLV 800 | Heavier, more affordable budget |
The key point: the top-end Speed Concept doesn't change carbon, and that makes sense. On a triathlon course, aerodynamic drag matters far more than frame weight; the extra cost of the SLR 9 AXS goes into RED AXS and RSL rims.
The latest RED AXS E1 generation has been lightened and reworked compared with previous RED groupsets; shifts remain instant and the wireless drivetrain makes any cockpit adjustment simpler. The power meter built into the chainset provides your data from the very first ride, with nothing to add.
The 48/35 and the 10-33 cassette cover a wide range, from the long coastal straights to the climbs of the hinterland around Béziers. We pair the power meter, update the AXS firmware and show you how to customise the controls in the SRAM app.
| Model | Carbon | Drivetrain | Wheels | Weight (size) |
| Speed Concept SLR 7 | OCLV 800 | Shimano Ultegra Di2 | Aeolus Pro 37 | 8.97 kg (M) |
| Speed Concept SLR 7 AXS | OCLV 800 | SRAM Force AXS + power meter | Aeolus Pro 51 | 9.02 kg (M) |
| Speed Concept SLR 9 | OCLV 800 | Shimano Dura-Ace Di2 | Aeolus RSL 51 | n/a (frame 1,522 g) |
| Speed Concept SLR 9 AXS | OCLV 800 | SRAM RED AXS + power meter | Aeolus RSL 51 | n/a (frame 1,522 g) |
Our take: the SLR 9 AXS brings together the best of the range: RED AXS E1, power meter and RSL 51 wheels. The SLR 7 AXS already offers a power meter with Force AXS for 9.02 kg in M, making it the sensible alternative.
