With its OCLV Series 900 frame, SRAM RED AXS E1 2x12 groupset and Aeolus RSL 51 carbon wheels, the Trek Madone SLR 9 AXS Gen 8 weighs 7.00 kg in size ML. Its 48/35 chainset paired with a 10-33 cassette is aimed at riders who alternate long valleys and serious climbs in the same day. For the sportive rider who ticks off two or three big mountain events every year, the experienced rider who wants a fast bike without an extreme position, or the cyclist coming from an older Émonda who refuses to choose between weight and aerodynamics.
OCLV carbon, Trek's signature. On this Madone SLR 9 AXS, Trek uses OCLV Series 900, the pinnacle of carbon expertise that began in 1992. The principle never changes: each stack of fibres goes into a heated press to eliminate the air bubbles that would weaken the structure. The 3D moulding specific to Series 900 limits the areas where plies overlap, resulting in a painted frame of 796 g in ML and a 350 g fork. Like every OCLV frame, it benefits from the Trek lifetime warranty.
| OCLV 900 (Madone SLR) | OCLV 500 (Madone SL) | OCLV 800 (Speed Concept) | |
| Level | Trek's most refined carbon | Entry-level road carbon | Trek's former top-end road carbon |
| Construction | 3D moulding, reduced ply overlaps | Same process, more generous lay-up | Proven lay-up, integration comes first |
| Reference bike | Madone SLR: painted frame 796 g (ML), fork 350 g | Madone SL: painted frame 1,054 g (ML), fork 363 g | Speed Concept SLR: painted frame 1,522 g |
| What it means | 271 g less than the SL on frame and fork; up to 20% stronger than OCLV 800 | Same aero shapes, separate bar and stem, gentler budget | Still very high-performing, reserved for triathlon at Trek |
Put simply: between a Madone SL and this SLR, the 271 g difference on the frame and fork is felt mainly on long climbs and when accelerating. The real leap of the SLR 9 AXS also lies in what it comes with: RED E1 groupset, power meter and one-piece bar/stem, three features you will not find together further down the range.
The 48/35 is less common than the 52/36 of Shimano race groupsets: it goes lower on climbs, and the 10-tooth sprocket makes up for it at the top end. On a 150 km sportive with three climbs, this choice lets you keep a lively cadence in the final kilometres rather than grinding a big gear.
IsoFlow, the opening in the seat tube, provides up to 80% more vertical compliance than on the Gen 7 Madone. Combined with the 28 mm tyres, it makes the rough surfaces of the Espinouse bearable, where an aero bike on 25 mm tyres used to shake you about much more.
| Model | Carbon | Drivetrain | Wheels | Weight (size) |
| Madone SLR 7 AXS | OCLV 900 | SRAM Force AXS | Aeolus Pro 51 carbon | 7.22 kg (ML) |
| Madone SLR 9 | OCLV 900 | Shimano Dura-Ace Di2 | Aeolus RSL 51 carbon | 7.05 kg (ML) |
| Madone SLR 9 AXS | OCLV 900 | SRAM RED AXS E1 + power meter | Aeolus RSL 51 carbon | 7.00 kg (ML) |
| Madone SLR 9 AXS 1x | OCLV 900 | SRAM RED E1 1x12 + power meter | Aeolus RSL 37 carbon | 6.40 kg (ML) |
Our take: for sportives, the SLR 9 AXS is the fairest trade-off: 7.00 kg with two chainrings, while the 1x drops to 6.40 kg but limits the gear range. The SLR 7 AXS costs 220 g more, mainly in the wheels.

LVR sizing advice Race geometry: between two sizes, the smaller one lowers the front end, the larger one spares your back. As the bar/stem is a single piece, changing stem length means changing the whole cockpit: it is best to get it right from the start.

| Is 48/35 enough on the flat? | Yes, the 10-tooth sprocket makes up for the 48 chainring at top speed. |
| Comfortable over 6 hours? | IsoFlow and 28 mm tyres help; a bike fit does the rest. |
| Bottles included? | Yes, RSL Aero bottles and bottle cages, compatible with round bottles. |
| Does purple show the dirt? | The marbling hides small marks well; a gentle wash is enough. |

The LVR Cycles verdict The Madone we recommend to demanding sportive riders: light, aero and fitted with easy gearing for the mountains. Its marbled purple finish gives it real personality.
