Trek Domane+ SLR 7 Matte Deep Smoke: three sizes for riding with faster friends

Available in 50, 56 and 60, the Trek Domane+ SLR 7 Matte Deep Smoke covers riders from 158 to 190 cm. OCLV Series 800 carbon frame with IsoSpeed, 60 Nm TQ HPR60 motor and 360 Wh battery, Shimano Ultegra Di2 2x12 groupset and Aeolus Pro 37 wheels: Trek quotes 12.65 kg in size 56. Its colour is a very dark smoky grey with a matt finish.

Who is it for?

For the rider in a group with fitter companions who wants to hold the pace on the climbs without leaving their legs behind. The assist closes the gap uphill, then fades away as soon as the group goes above 25 km/h.

The LVR workshop view

OCLV carbon, Trek's signature. Since 1992, Trek has moulded its OCLV frames by pressing the carbon plies at high temperature to eliminate voids; the Series 800 of this Domane+ thus achieves good stiffness with little material. The frame hides the TQ HPR60 at the bottom bracket, keeps the rear IsoSpeed and takes mudguards thanks to its mounts. Like all OCLV frames, it benefits from Trek's lifetime warranty.

In short: this version of the SLR 7 gets the 60 Nm TQ HPR60 motor, 10 Nm more than the HPR50 series, with Ultegra Di2 2x12, Aeolus Pro 37 wheels and 32 mm Kwaremont RSL tyres in 320 tpi. It is the best balance in the SLR range between spec and torque.

The TQ LED display communicates with your GPS computer via Bluetooth and ANT+: you keep track of the assist and battery without changing your habits. In a group, the help can be finely metered so you don't shoot off the front on the first rise, and the motor stays quiet enough not to drown out the conversation.

The Aeolus Pro 37 wheels and the Kwaremont RSL TLR tyres with 320 tpi casing give the bike a lively roll, welcome for accelerating out of every bend on the winding roads of the Caroux. The tubeless-ready set-up allows lower pressures without fear of pinch flats, and our workshop prepares it for you with sealant.

Which Domane+ should you choose?

Our take: compared with the Gen 5 Domane+ SL 7 AXS (11.47 kg in ML, 40 Nm TQ HPR40), the SLR 7 HPR60 is heavier but offers 20 Nm more: to keep up with a group on the climbs, that torque counts. The SLR 9 HPR60 (11.84 kg in 56) remains the lightest SLR with this motor.
