Who is it for?

For the former racer or club rider who wants to keep sharing Sunday rides even though form or training time no longer keep pace. At this weight, it blends into the group like a conventional road bike.

The LVR workshop view

OCLV carbon, Trek's signature. The Domane+ SL 9 AXS keeps the OCLV Series 500 carbon of the other Domane+ SL models: here, the weight saving comes from the spec, Aeolus RSL 37 wheels and a RED groupset, rather than from a more expensive carbon. The process remains Trek's own, layers compacted under pressure and heat to avoid any internal flaws, with a lifetime warranty on the frame.

In short: the SL 9 AXS is the lightest Domane+ SL, at 11.00 kg in ML, and the only one to get the SRAM RED XPLR eTap AXS drivetrain. The frame and HPR40 motor are those of the SL 6 and SL 7: what you pay for here is Aeolus RSL wheels and a RED groupset.

In a bunch, everything happens on the rises, the roundabouts and the accelerations: the 40 Nm and 200 W peak of the HPR40 provide just what you need to get back on without a violent effort. Above 25 km/h, the assist cuts out and the bike handles like a road bike; the rest of the time, the TQ colour LED display shows the selected assist level.

The Bontrager Pro Riser carbon handlebar and the -7° Trek RCS Pro stem keep the position sporty but not extreme. Handlebar widths, from 36 to 42 cm, and stems, from 80 to 120 mm, change with the size, a starting point we fine-tune during the bike fit.

Which Domane+ should you choose?

Our take: compared with the SL 7 AXS (11.47 kg), the SL 9 AXS saves 470 g thanks to the RED groupset and Aeolus RSL 37 wheels. In a fast group, you feel that saving above all above 25 km/h, when the motor is no longer helping you.
