For the commuter who wants to leave the car in the garage and ride into the centre of Béziers every morning, stepping off effortlessly outside the office. It will also suit anyone new to e-bikes looking for a fully equipped model straight away, with no accessories to add.
A step-through frame designed for frequent stops. The Charter+ 4 R9 Lowstep is built on Alpha Platinum aluminium, one of the higher grades of Trek's alloys. Its low step-over lets you put a foot down at every red light without contortions, and Trek has integrated the rack and mudguards into the frame, avoiding add-on mounts that work loose over time. The 540 Wh battery slides in through the top of the down tube.

| What it means | Widest gear range | Shifts at a standstill, clean | The ideal gear at any moment |
In short: this is the entry point to the step-through Charter+, with a 9-speed Shimano CUES derailleur and a 75 Nm Bosch motor. At 30.80 kg in size M according to Trek, it's aimed at everyday journeys and half-day rides.
The Shimano CUES drivetrain uses Linkglide technology: thicker cassette teeth and an LG500 chain designed to last under the torque of an electric motor. With an 11-46 cassette, you always have an easy gear for pulling away from the lights on the Allées Paul Riquet or getting going again after a roundabout, without straining your knees.
The 63 mm SR Suntour SF25 coil fork and the suspension seatpost smooth out cobbles and kerbs. The 2.40-inch E6 Hard-Case Lite tyres, with reflective sidewalls, add air volume and make the bike visible from the side when you ride home after dark.
| Model | Motor / battery | Drivetrain | Fork | Weight (size) |
| Charter+ 4 R9 540 Wh Lowstep | Bosch Performance Line 75 Nm / 540 Wh | Shimano CUES 9-speed | 63 mm coil | 30.80 kg (M) |
| Charter+ 4 R9 800 Wh Lowstep | Bosch Performance Line 75 Nm / 800 Wh | Shimano CUES 9-speed | 63 mm coil | 31.70 kg (M) |
| Charter+ 4 Trail 540 Wh Lowstep | Bosch Performance Line 75 Nm / 540 Wh | Shimano CUES 9-speed | XCR32 80 mm | 27.80 kg (M) |
| Charter+ 4 Nexus 5 belt 540 Wh Lowstep | Bosch Performance Line 75 Nm / 540 Wh | Nexus 5 + belt | 63 mm coil | 30.60 kg (M) |
Our take: at 30.80 kg in M, this R9 540 Wh is 0.90 kg lighter than the R9 800 Wh (31.70 kg). If you never want to grease a chain again, the Nexus 5 belt 540 Wh Lowstep weighs 30.60 kg, with 5 gears instead of 9.

LVR sizing advice You get onto the Lowstep frame from the front, without lifting your leg: the size is chosen mainly on saddle height and reach. Trek's ranges overlap between M and L (170 to 173 cm); in that case, the smaller size gives a more upright position and the larger one more room for long rides. The height-adjustable stem then fine-tunes the position.
