The Trek Domane SLR 7 combines OCLV Series 900 carbon, Trek's most advanced, with the Shimano Ultegra Di2 2x12 drivetrain and Bontrager Aeolus Pro 51 carbon wheels, for 7.66 kg in size ML. For the sportive rider who ticks off the mountain events every year and wants to lighten their machine without moving to a race geometry. It will also suit the experienced rider replacing an old carbon bike of more than 8.5 kg who is looking for a clear gain on the climbs, while keeping the comfort of 35 mm tyres.
OCLV carbon, Trek's signature. Since 1992, Trek has made its OCLV carbon frames by compacting the fibre sheets under heat and pressure, to eliminate the micro-voids where weaknesses begin. The number after the name reflects how refined the layup is: a high number means less material is needed to achieve the same stiffness. The 900 of the Domane SLR is the top of this scale, covered like all OCLV frames by the Trek lifetime warranty.
| OCLV 900 (Domane SLR) | OCLV 500 (Domane SL) | |
| Level | Trek's most advanced carbon | Entry-level road carbon |
| Construction | Rigid 3D moulding, reduced fibre overlaps | Same process, layup with more material |
| Gen 5 Domane frame | approx. 835 g (unpainted, ML), fork 367 g | approx. 1,055 g (unpainted, ML) |
| What it means | About 220 g less; up to 20 % stronger than the previous OCLV 800 | Tough frame, slightly heavier, more affordable |
In practice, compared with the Domane SL and its OCLV 500, the SLR saves about 220 g on the frame alone thanks to a stiffer 3D moulding that limits fibre overlaps, while also gaining strength. On an endurance bike, those grams are felt mainly when accelerating and on long climbs, not on the flat.
The weight saving is found everywhere: OCLV 900 frame and fork, Aeolus Pro 51 wheels, Pro Riser carbon handlebar, carbon-railed saddle and Kwaremont RSL tyres with a 320 tpi casing. The result: almost a kilo less than a Domane SL 6 AXS. On the hairpins of the Caroux or up towards the Col de Fontfroide, that difference translates into a pace that is easier to sustain.
On the gearing side, Shimano sticks with a classic 50/34 and 11-34: perfect for the steady cols of the hinterland, a little tight on the steepest ramps. The weight is quoted with inner tubes; in the workshop, we can set the wheels up tubeless to save a few more grams and gain efficiency.
| Model | Carbon | Drivetrain | Wheels | Weight (ML) |
| Domane SL 6 AXS | OCLV 500 | SRAM Rival AXS wireless | Carbon 50 mm | 8.64 kg |
| Domane SLR 7 | OCLV 900 | Shimano Ultegra Di2 | Carbon 51 mm | 7.66 kg |
| Domane SLR 7 AXS | OCLV 900 | SRAM Force AXS + power meter | Carbon 51 mm | 7.73 kg |
| Domane SLR 9 | OCLV 900 | Shimano Dura-Ace Di2 | RSL carbon 51 mm | 7.34 kg |
Our take: the SLR 7 weighs 70 g less than the SLR 7 AXS but has no power meter; the SLR 9 only takes off a further 320 g with Dura-Ace Di2 and RSL wheels. For a recreational climber, the SLR 7 offers the best ratio of grams saved to budget.

LVR sizing advice A light climber between two sizes? Take the smaller one: the bike will be livelier and easier to rock from side to side out of the saddle. Handlebar, stem and cranks follow the size.

| Light enough for the mountains? | Yes: 7.66 kg in ML, almost a kilo less than a Domane SL 6 AXS. |
| Does the white show dirt? | The lacquer is easy to clean; a wash with soapy water after rain is enough. |
| Going tubeless? | Yes, the rims and tyres are Tubeless Ready; we carry out the conversion in the workshop. |
| For very steep gradients? | The 34x34 is enough for most; otherwise, the SLR 7 AXS offers an easier 35x36. |

The LVR Cycles verdict A Domane that no longer compromises on weight: under 7.7 kg with genuine endurance comfort. Our pick for the sportive rider who wants to climb faster without changing position.
