The Gen 6 Trek Fuel EX 9.9 X0 AXS T-Type combines an OCLV Mountain carbon frame, the SRAM X0 Eagle AXS T-Type wireless drivetrain and the radio-controlled Reverb AXS dropper post, weighing 14.78 kg in size M. Trek's spec for this size S lists 140 mm of travel front and rear, with 27.5-inch wheels. The Deep Smoke colour dresses the frame in a very dark smoked grey, understated and technical.

For the smaller rider who wants a high-end carbon trail bike proportioned to their build, and who appreciates a clean cockpit with no derailleur or dropper cables. Ideal for riding varied trails, from committed rides to technical weekend descents.
OCLV Mountain carbon, the all-electronic version. This Fuel EX 9.9 pairs the Gen 6 OCLV Mountain carbon frame with SRAM's wireless ecosystem: an X0 AXS T-Type rear derailleur mounted directly on the UDH hanger and a radio-controlled Reverb AXS post. The mountain bike carbon layup is designed to resist rock strikes, and the frame keeps its storage hatch and adjustable head angle headset. Trek lifetime warranty on the frame.
| OCLV Mountain | Alpha Platinum (Gen 6) | Alpha NEXT Platinum (Gen 7) | |
| Level | Trek's mountain bike carbon | High-end aluminium | Trek's most refined aluminium |
| Construction | OCLV layup reinforced against impacts | Hydroformed tubes, smoothed welds | Refined tube shapes |
| Reference bike | Gen 7 Fuel EX frameset: 3.31 kg (M) | Gen 6 Fuel EX 5 / 8 | Gen 7 Fuel EX frameset: 4.95 kg (M) |
| What it means | About 1.6 kg less on the frameset | Proven, robust base | Alloy version of the new generation |
Put simply: this build is not the lightest (14.78 kg versus 13.98 kg for the XTR version), but it is the most modern: no more derailleur or dropper cables to adjust, and Maven brakes built for long descents.
The T-Type drivetrain mounts directly on the UDH hanger, with no intermediate derailleur hanger: it copes much better with a knock against a rock and keeps its adjustment. On the rocky trails around Béziers, where derailleurs suffer, that is real peace of mind.
The four-piston SRAM Maven Silver brakes offer high power with a progressive bite: on a long descent in the Montagne Noire, your fingers tire less. We bleed the system and check the calliper bolts at handover, then at every service.
| Model | Frame | Travel rear / front | Drivetrain | Weight (M) |
| Fuel EX 8 GX AXS (Gen 6) | Alpha Platinum alloy | 140 / 150 mm | SRAM GX AXS T-Type 1x12 | 15.88 kg |
| Fuel EX 9.9 X0 AXS (Gen 6) | OCLV Mountain carbon | 140 / 140 mm (size S page) | SRAM X0 AXS T-Type 1x12 | 14.78 kg |
| Fuel EX 9.9 XTR (Gen 6) | OCLV Mountain carbon | 140 / 150 mm | Shimano XTR 1x12 | 13.98 kg |
| Fuel EX 9.8 XT (Gen 7) | OCLV Mountain carbon | 145 / 150 mm | Shimano XT 1x12 | 15.28 kg |
Our take: compared with the 9.9 XTR, this build weighs 800 g more, but brings wireless electronics and the Reverb AXS. The Fuel EX 8 GX AXS offers wireless shifting in aluminium for an extra 1.1 kg.

| What does T-Type mean? | A SRAM derailleur mounted directly on the frame's UDH hanger, tougher and with no hanger to replace. |
| Frequent charging? | The AXS batteries in the derailleur and post are charged from time to time with the charger. |
| Why 27.5 wheels? | In size S, Trek fits 27.5-inch wheels, which are more agile and better suited to smaller riders. |
| Does Deep Smoke scratch? | Protective film on the down tube limits marks; we can fit it in the workshop. |

The LVR Cycles verdict A modern carbon trail bike, designed here for smaller riders, that gets the best out of SRAM wireless. The Deep Smoke grey suits it well: discreet, it lets the technology do the talking.
