The Trek Fuel EX 9 X0 AXS Gen 7 shares its Alpha NEXT Platinum aluminium frame and RockShox Ultimate suspension (150 mm front, 145 mm rear) with the Fuel EX 9 Eagle 90, but replaces the mechanical drivetrain with a wireless SRAM X0 Eagle AXS T-Type and the brakes with Maven Silver. Trek has not published a weight for this version; the closest reference is 16.88 kg in size M for the Fuel EX 9 XT Di2, with the identical frame. Matte Juniper/Blue Sage Splatter is a matt juniper green flecked with sage blue.

For the mountain biker torn between a mechanical and an electronic drivetrain who wants to understand what AXS really brings. It will appeal to riders who ride often and want to spare themselves cable adjustments.
Alpha aluminium, Trek's expertise. The Fuel EX 9 X0 AXS is the only aluminium Fuel to get a SRAM electronic drivetrain, and with no derailleur cable, its frame houses only the rear brake hose and the dropper post cable, both routed internally. Alpha NEXT Platinum is the highest tier of Trek's alloys, ahead of Alpha Platinum (Procaliber, Slash 8) and Alpha Silver (Marlin). The frame kit weighs 4.95 kg in M and keeps the adjustable progression of the Gen 7.
| Alpha Silver | Alpha NEXT Platinum | OCLV Mountain | |
| Level | Trek's entry-level alloy | The most refined of the Alpha alloys | Trek's mountain bike carbon |
| Construction | Alpha aluminium, hardtail frame | Alpha aluminium, adjustable Fuel platform | OCLV process tuned for impacts |
| Reference bike | Marlin 4 to 7 | Fuel EX 5, 8 and 9 | Fuel EX 9.8 and 9.9 |
| What it means | Simple and affordable, no rear suspension | 4.95 kg frameset in M, tough and more affordable | 3.31 kg frameset in M, 1.64 kg less |
In short: here you get a carbon-level drivetrain on an aluminium frame. It is a coherent choice if the precision and robustness of wireless matter more to you than the 1.64 kg the OCLV Mountain frame kit would save.
The difference from the mechanical Eagle 90 lies not in the sprockets but in the shifting: the X0 AXS changes gear with the same precision whatever the dust, mud or housing wear. The X0 derailleur is also more refined, with more replaceable parts in the event of a knock.
The Maven Silver brakes sit one step above the Bronze in the SRAM range, with the same 4-piston power. We bleed them when we hand the bike over and show you how to adjust the reach to the size of your hands.
| Model | Frame | Fork / rear | Drivetrain | Weight (M) |
| Fuel EX 9 Eagle 90 | Alpha NEXT Platinum alloy | RockShox Lyrik Ultimate, 150 / 145 mm | SRAM Eagle 90 1x12 | 16.58 kg |
| Fuel EX 9 XT Di2 | Alpha NEXT Platinum alloy | Fox Factory 36, 150 / 145 mm | Shimano XT Di2 1x12 | 16.88 kg |
| Fuel EX 9 X0 AXS | Alpha NEXT Platinum alloy | RockShox Lyrik Ultimate, 150 / 145 mm | SRAM X0 AXS T-Type 1x12 | not published |
| Fuel EX 9.8 XT | OCLV Mountain carbon | Fox Factory 36, 150 / 145 mm | Shimano XT 1x12 | 15.28 kg |
Our take: with identical suspension, this X0 AXS differs from the Fuel EX 9 Eagle 90 in its wireless drivetrain and Maven Silver brakes. The Fuel EX 9 XT Di2 makes the same choice on the Shimano side, with Fox Factory suspension.

LVR sizing advice If you are between two sizes, the smaller gives a lively bike in slow sections, the larger gains composure as the slope steepens. Post travel goes from 150 mm (S) to 200 mm (L, XL); in S, a 27.5-inch rear wheel.
