Trek Supercaliber SLR 9.9 XTR Di2 marbled grey: the benchmark for marathon events

For an event lasting several hours, the Gen 2 Trek Supercaliber SLR 9.9 XTR Di2 bets on reliability: Shimano XTR Di2 10-51 electronic groupset, 110 mm SID SL Ultimate fork, 80 mm IsoStrut and OCLV Mountain SLR carbon frame, weighing 10.58 kg in size M. The 2.4-inch Maxxis Aspen tyres add volume for long distances. The Carbon Smoke/Galactic Grey Marble finish combines smoked carbon with marbled galactic grey.

Who is it for?

For the rider who prefers marathons and long-distance events to short circuits: long days, varied courses, feed stations, and the need for a bike that never lets you down. It will also appeal to riders who spend a lot of time riding self-sufficient in the hills of the hinterland.

The LVR workshop view

OCLV carbon, Trek's signature. The OCLV principle consists of compacting the carbon layers under heat and pressure to eliminate micro-voids: fewer defects, and therefore less material needed for a given stiffness. In mountain biking, Trek adapts it under the name OCLV Mountain, with a layup designed to take knocks. The 9.9 XTR Di2 gets the SLR level, the lightest, and Trek's lifetime warranty on the frame.

Put simply: with an identical frame, this 9.9 XTR Di2 is the Supercaliber for Shimano loyalists. It weighs 300 g more than the 9.9 XX Flight Attendant, lacking electronically controlled suspension and equally light wheels, but it keeps conventional dampers with handlebar remotes, which are simpler to live with.

The XTR 10-51 cassette offers a very wide range with even steps between sprockets: in a long-distance event, you always find the right gear to hold a steady cadence, from the fast false flat to the final steep ramp. The 34-tooth E*thirteen carbon chainset keeps a big enough top gear for wide tracks.

The 2.4-inch Maxxis Aspens, set up tubeless, roll fast while absorbing the small bumps that the IsoStrut and fork let through. On the rough garrigue trails around Béziers, this air volume reduces arm fatigue and limits pinch flats.

Which Supercaliber should you choose?

Supercaliber SLR 9.8 X0 Flight AttendantOCLV Mountain SLRSRAM X0 AXS + power meterFlight Attendant11.28 kg

Supercaliber SLR 9.9 XX Flight AttendantOCLV Mountain SLRSRAM XX SL AXSFlight Attendant10.28 kg

Our take: for a long-distance event, the reliability of XTR Di2 and its 10.58 kg in M make it a safe choice. The 9.9 XX Flight Attendant saves 300 g and automates the suspension; the 9.8 XT Di2 keeps the same Shimano logic for 1 kg more.

LVR sizing advice

If you are between two sizes, take the smaller one for a lively bike on twisting singletrack, the larger one if your races include long fast-rolling sections. Cranks go from 170 to 175 mm in L and XL, and the Fox Transfer SL post from 100 to 150 mm.

Your questions

Comfortable enough for a long-distance event?Yes, between the 80 mm at the rear, the 110 mm fork and the 2.4-inch tyres.
Why an E*thirteen chainset? This 34-tooth carbon chainset is light and stiff, fitted to a BB20-92 bottom bracket.
Di2 battery on a long event?Battery life far exceeds a single event; regular charging is enough.
Does the marbling hide mud?The grey and smoked carbon hide dust and marks well.

The LVR Cycles verdict

A reliable, enduring Supercaliber, designed to rack up the hours without a false note. Its marbled grey on smoked carbon is as discreet as it is refined.

Pros
+ 10-51 range ideal for long distances
+ Comfortable 2.4-inch tyres
+ Original marbled grey
Cons
- Heavier than the Flight Attendant version
- Manual lockouts to remember while racing
