The Pirelli P ZERO Race TLR SL-R 700x28C black performance road tire is the most advanced model in the P ZERO Race range designed for road racing. Developed around speed, it combines the tubeless-ready LiteCORE construction, the SmartEVO² rubber compound, and the PAAS - Pirelli Advanced Aero System.
Its profile was developed using CFD simulation to improve the continuity between the tire and modern road rims. The various integrated aerodynamic features aim to limit airflow separation, promote wheel curvature, and reduce the drag of the tire-wheel assembly.
This black 28-622 version uses a 120 TPI casing and has a claimed weight of 275 g. It is designed for road racing and time trials, with a slick profile, a finely tuned microtexture and a compound developed to maintain grip and control on both dry and wet roads.
The P ZERO Race SL-R is presented by Pirelli as the fastest tire in its P ZERO Race range for road racing and time trials.
Its design prioritizes speed, efficiency, aerodynamics, and tire behavior on modern road rims.
The PAAS system combines several aerodynamic features developed by CFD simulation to improve the efficiency of the tire and wheel assembly.
The shape of the tire uses patent-pending technologies designed to create a continuous transition with the rim.
The profile seeks to maintain the airflow attached to the surface of the tire and rim in order to reduce flow separation phenomena.
The optimization of the profile also aims to exploit the sail effect produced by the wheel when the wind arrives at a lateral angle.
Pirelli announces a saving of up to 5 to 10 watts in sustained wind conditions compared to the average of the tires used as a reference during its tests.
LiteCORE is presented as the lightest and most efficient TLR carcass in the Pirelli range.
This version uses a 120 TPI casing.
The LiteCORE construction is developed to reduce rolling resistance while maintaining a low weight.
The desired flexibility aims to improve the ride feel, contact with the road surface and grip.
The SmartEVO² compound uses a new generation of functionalized polymers developed from Pirelli's motorsport expertise.
The compound is designed to provide grip and control in both dry and wet road conditions.
SmartEVO² polymers are developed to combine several properties within a single molecular chain.
The P ZERO Race SL-R adopts a slick design geared towards road racing.
The surface uses a refined microtexture depending on the objectives of performance, control and adhesion.
Aerodynamic elements are part of the overall shape of the tire in order to work directly with the rim profile.
The tire is developed to work with modern road rims that have a large internal width.
Pirelli indicates an aerodynamic optimization for rims with an internal width of 22 to 25 mm.
The technical table associates this 28-622 version with a 19 C reference rim, while the development table also indicates measurements on 21 C and 23 C rims.
The tire uses a tubeless ready construction and can be mounted without an inner tube with a compatible rim, valve and sealant.
The P ZERO Race SL-R is compatible with hookless rims provided that the applicable pressure limitations are respected.
The development of the tire is based on ETRTO standards.
The pressure must be adapted to the actual width of the tire, the internal width of the rim, the total weight of the system and the limits indicated by the tire and rim manufacturers.
The natural rubber used in the tire is FSC® certified.
This natural rubber represents 21% of the total weight of the tire.
The P ZERO Race SL-R is made in Italy.
